Johanna Sigmund was a spirited, caring and generous young woman. As a student, an athlete, a daughter and a friend, her life touched many hearts.
Throughout Johanna’s 25 years, she was known for her infectious energy and loving dedication to her friends and family. She will also be remembered for her giving spirit. As remembered in her dedication in the New York Times:
Not long after Sept. 11, a stranger wrote to her parents. The letter writer had been thrown out of a taxi after it collided with a car in Hoboken. The taxi driver sped off, leaving the woman on the street, bleeding. Johanna Sigmund rushed over, cleaned the woman up, took her to the emergency room and held her hand while she had stitches. "I saw Johanna's picture on a Web site recently, and I immediately recognized her as the angel that helped me out that night," the woman wrote. "I lost many friends in the Sept. 11 tragedy. I now add Johanna's name to my list of friends in heaven."
Johanna graduated from the Springside School in Philadelphia, where she
was a tri-varsity athlete. After graduating from Fairfield University, she joined Fred Alger Management in New York. The year before her death, Johanna successfully completed the NYC Marathon. She is survived by her mother and father, John and Ruth, and younger brother, John Jr.
"Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some stay a while, leave footprints on our hearts,
and we are never, ever, the same. "
